So every review I've read marvels at how easy it is to get performance out of the GTR and how effortless it is to drive, but how other cars are more tactile, more demanding, more challenging...

My question is: isn't that the point? If we wanted easy speed, wouldn't we all be running bullet trains? What's the point in removing the skill and involvement of the driver from a performance car??

I can understand if it's a sport SUV like the Cayenne or the Range Rover Sport, or even a sport sedan like an E63 or M5 (or G8 GT), but for a sports car?? Come on- that connectedness, that effort, that thrill of holding it right on the edge- that's what it's all about. Fuck this panzy-ass easy speed shit.

Oh- and the front end is still atrociously ugly, though the rest of the car is pretty fucking hot. :o

So take a minivan to a track if you want to use effort to drive.

I haven't read any reviews that say it is not an enjoyable experience...if that is truly the case it definitely would not be a car I am interested in.

Well, it would be pretty awesome to be driving bullet trains instead of cars, what with speed and ease and all, but it would sure suck if one day I wanted to go shopping and my personal bullet train tracks didn't lead to a Safeway. :o

Excellence as defined by lap times or by the driver enjoyment?

Bullet trains don't turn very well.
Not to mention that whole rail thing could be prohibitive on the road.

I am going to buy one and hire a full time driver. I mean, I want a cool car but its too much effort to actually drive it, even if its easy.

If people from CAR and Top Gear and other true enthusiast magazines rave about the GT-R, I am guessing that it is not the boring car you suggest, Mike.
