is that until the C6 comes out, it is going to basically give you the performance of a C5 Vette, with a better interior, for $10k+ less.

    yeah, I know...

but alot of people have bitched taht the GTO is essentially filling the void in GM's lineup left by the F Body... except its marginally slower, and costs more...

I dont much care, as I cant afford one :o

nor an interior that you could tolerate for more than half an hour at a time :o

but the 'purists' dont give a fuck about handling, or creature comforts... they just want an IROC

It's more practical, comfortable, refined, handles better, accelerates about the same, and costs about the same. I looked at a new WS6 in 2001, and the MSRP was $32k. The GTO isn't a Firechicken replacement anyways, but it does fill the halo car void left by it.

I suppose the same group of narrowminded whiners who hated the GTO the moment it was announced will bitch about the Solstice not having a V8 when it comes out too.

...and the fact that its made it all the way to production, and the Pontiac design people havent succombed to temptation and completely and totally fucked it up...

    SSR = Rubbish :hs:

im not too excited about this one...

I suppose the most comparable thing to it on the market would be the Prowler (I know... gone) as they are both essentially only good for being boulevard cruisers... I guess I should be happy that the SSR at least got a V8 :dunno:

how could a car with the same engine, gearbox, and approximate weight be slower?

tests on the GTO have it as a mid-high 13 second car stock, which is about the same as the C5 vette.

No kidding and that doesn't make it rubbish.

I actually looked at one, and was shocked to find it was as well built, if not better than the new GTO. It's quite an impressive machine in the flesh.

A C5 Corvette is substantially lighter, has a lot less drag, and hits 60 and goes through the quarter a bit quicker.

The GTO is called a monaro in Australia
The monaro is based on a 4 door sedan called a Commodore
The commodore is a taxi in Australia
    So a GTO/monaro is a 2 door taxi :fawk:

The Commodore is based on the Opel Omega, which was also the basis for the Cadillac Catera.
