So yesterday when we were conducting the lighting test, i asked s14brent if he wanted to check out the new grid i bought from PCB for my speedotron Beauty dish.

So naturally i hadnt shot with it yet, so impromptu photoshoot commenced.

I had the idea after we started shooting i wanted to practice more composite stuff, so i setup the light about 50" or so away from Brent on a boom.

We started shooting away i really liked the buttery, yet contrasty shadow it was giving me, but it was a little too dark on the side of this face, So i busted out my ghetto "vcard" (folding laundry doors) and place it behind his shoulder to catch some of that light.

The light control you get from a 30 degree grid on a 22" light source is awesome, plus the quality of light is almost mystical. lol

But anyway, these were just mess arounds, but i like to have fun with it....

    sick dude!

    does the grid fit perfect?

Im curious, if someone just did like paper mache, could they just do a paper mache copy of a real mola BD? I imagine if it was done, the shape of the dish would be perfectly replicated. But maybe it could catch fire....

i wouldnt do it, paper and strobes dont like one another.

It fits almost perfect, i had to layer a couple pieces of gaff tape to make it fit snugly.

I don't really see what's so great about the light quality...sorry.

    Its understandable.

But notice how the light wraps around his face and has a smooth yet crisp fall off? And on his shirt, how the light feathers out? Thats what im talking about, its a very specific light quality that offers dramatic fall off yet soft light and is well controlled.
