I'm left handed, looking to get a full frame 9mm to take to the range, woods, etc.
Is there any model which is noticably better for left-handed shooting?

Was looking at the G19 or P226. :dunno:

    G19 is a compact frame. G17 is fullsize 9mm.

Ambi mag release and slide release is easy to hit with the trigger finger.

Don't a lot of companies make 1911 clones? Any specific brand (one with a reversable magazine release?)

I'd like to stay around $500, if possible.

ok. I shot a G17 at the range a couple months back and it felt alright. I have pretty big hands too.

I'm a lefty, but I carry righty. I'm looking at getting Milt Sparks to make me a SS2 for my 19 to carry lefty. I am left-eye dominant, and find that hitting the mag release with my left middle finger is easier than hitting it with my right thumb. I also do mag changes smoother and quicker lefty than righty. My hands are somewhat different as well, because the pistol fits my left hand slightly more comfortably than my right. The only thing on a 19 that is less able to be manipulated lefty than righty for me is the slide release. Easy thing for me to get over.

If the 17 fits you better and you're looking for a full-size pistol, go with it. If you THOUGHT you were looking for a full-size, but the 19 fits better, go with that instead. The 19 will conceal better if carry is a concern for present or future. The 17 has better capacity, and a slight bit less recoil. The 19's finger grooves are a little tighter together, which is what makes it fit my hands better. This may mean that the 17 is your thing.

Nah, I just got the 17 and 19 mixed up. I had asked to see the compact initially, but the lady at the range said it'd be way to small for me, so I went and shot with the 17 instead, which seemed to fit my hand well.
I'm in CA, so concealed carry isn't an issue. Only time I'll be carrying it on me will be when I'm camping in the woods on my bike.... think I'll try to find a left-handed thigh holster for it then. :wiggle:

As I told PT on AIM, when you press it, it releases the slide. That makes it a slide release to me. The slide stop is the internal part that is triggered by the magazine's follower. The release is what you press on to counter the action of the slide stop.

I'm not saying it's BAD to use a release on other guns...on a glock though, it's no good. I have heard advantages and disadvantages to both. Make a fucking decision. If you get killed because your slide stop fucked up, maybe you will switch in the afterlife :mamoru:

Oh, and I agree with Nismo on the slingshot for clearing malfunctions. Seems more logical to run the gun the same way for everything.

Yeah, I guess. I used the slide stop during a class just fine, but I wasn't being shot at or anything. As I told PT, my major problems that came during running around like that were previous habits, like reaching up to grab the mag coming out of the pistol, instead of letting it drop like it's designed to do. When I get done shooting at the range, I always drop the mag into my hand, and hand it to the next person to load. So, it's become a habit to catch the mag any time I run empty on my pistol. Something I have to break. But, I guess I was never stressed enough to miss the stop, and Dave never said anything about it. I didn't know about the failure through use, though.

I have a HK USP 9. I'm a lefty, right eye dominate :hs:.

Only thing I have done to the HK is, switch out the external safety from the left side, to right side.

The slide-lock/release is a HUGE lever. Easy to release with your trigger finger. Or you could always "sling shot" it, even though I prefer palming it instead.

the slide-lock/release sucks on the glock. I think there's an extended version isnt there? My friends G23 was stuck. No matter what you did, it wouldnt budge. So, I sling shot it.
