once i get into the army will i be able to purchase a m16 or an m4?
issued M16A2's aren't full auto, M4A1's are but I don't know how you would go about getting one.
ah. i was wondering because i would like to get my self a M4
nope. you can't do it. you COULD buy a registered machine gun, but even then, you'd have to get the base commander's permission to take it out of the armory any time you wanted to go home with it. if you were sent overseas, you might get to take it with you, but you'd never get to take it home.
since we're on the topic, everyone knows about the all the complaints in iraq from soldiers regarding the M16, especially how cumbersome it is. how come they don't just issue M4s? i doubt its as accurate but i'm thinking they would be perfect to ride around in a humvee with.
the m16 didn't have problems with M855 is why ^
no, it has LESS non-fragmentation problems. it still has them, it just takes a longer range. it's also cheaper to use up all the rifles they've got. the army is switching over the M4's, the marines are switching to M16A4's.
kinda weird the marines are switching to the M16A4, and then they just announced recently they're switching to the XM8 (i believe that's it). Although i've heard the only diff in the A4 is the sites anyway, so, it's not much of a switch.
there is the right answer
i've yet to hear anything about any branch actually adopting the XM8 yet, but i haven't been over to arfcom in a couple days. link it if you've got it, because i'm too lazy to go look.
my buddy in the marines called me on tuesday and we were talking and he told me about it, that's where i heard it from. he said it was in the marine times or whatever their newspaper is.
damn. i hope they don't regret it.
