I love taking night shots, long exposure stuff... my 2.5 year old Sony DSC S50 can take pictures with exposure time up to 8 seconds, but it's only 2.1mp. So, I'm looking at a newer cam, something with higher resolution, and was looking at the S5000, .. so far, it seems like this thing can only go to 2 seconds as the longest exposure??? Does anyone have one of these, and is this correct?

    Thanks!

    That is correct.

I have gone from the S3000-->S500-->S7000 (christmas present to myself).

geckoman, check out the fuji f700, it has MUCH nicer image quality, much longer exposure time, full manual controls, etc. I was really interested in getting an s5000 but the images just honestly suck ass once I compared them to what other cameras have to offer. It doesn't have the big zoom or the SLR body type, but it is very small and still very nice to grip and operate.

according to what I was able to find on the f700, it's only able to do up to 3 seconds exposure time :( and it's only 3.2megapixels

whew you are right about exposure time, my brain is fried from reading so much today. The s5000 is only ~3MP as well, it can interpolate to ~6MP but with hardly any appreciable benefits :hs:

I'm really looking at the Canon A80 .. but I'm also checking out the S50, which has all the same features except the swivel screen, but it has 5.0 mp instead of 4.0 on the A80...

    ARRGGGHH ... decisions!

I made the decision.. ordered the S50 for $350 plus $23 shipping (3 day).. 5.0 mp, and all the bells and whistles I want... :) perfect for my honeymoon in July :)
