I've NEVER seen any version of Windows not accept the CD key that came with it. Either you're reading it wrong, typing it wrong, or that key doesn't belong to that version of Windows.

  3. I used the key last week to reformat and it worked fine. now its not accepting it at all. i had 4 diff people try to type it to

If you're telling the truth and the CD key actually doesn't work then call MS and find out what's up. Their tech support system is annoying as hell, but once you get a real person they're pretty helpful with things like keys.

I will assume that this is true. If you re-install, the CD Key sometimes won't work... especially if you added significantly new hardware. When I went to re-install Microsoft Office (without adding new hardware), it didn't work. I called tech support, and the guy asked me what happened. I told him it is not working after I re-install, and he stated that a re-install can cause this to happen sometimes. And simply, while on the phone, he told me to go somewhere and punch in their own longer code to register it. And this happened twice, once when tech support was kept in America, and another when it was moved to India. Both problems were solved quickly.

Call MS. They will work with you if in fact your CD key is a valid one.
