my cousin did that to his 17-40L while we were out night shooting.... broke the UV filter, but the lens is fine... ended up taking it to a shop to get it fixed.

oh and to add... when we're out and one of his filters gets stuck he uses the sole of his shoe to remove it... kinda funny to watch.

 what a bunch of morons

the more pressure you apply, the more chance you're going to warp the filter and get it stuck even more

you want even torque. get one of those rubber strap wrenches.

L glass FTW. I dropped my newspaper's 70-200 onto concrete before and it still works like a champ.

Place it in the freezer for a few minutes. The metal will contract & break free.

please tell me this is meant to be funny.. you should have said microwave.

Yes, lets put metal in the microwave.

When he puts the lens in the freezer and removes it the metal will have tightened & expanded hopefully breaking free.

I would've suggested steam from a kettle to heat the filter, but that would run the risk of getting moisture behind the housing. This is a more natural method.

Thanks Man, I put it in there for about 5 minutes, took it out, used a kitchen towel and it came right off.

Rubber band didint work, Not forcing it didint work, I wasint going to go buy a wrench and since its a CP cant do the cut and twist method.
