fucked up the back of my neck or pulled something deadlifting......

    i did deads then jumped over to lat pulldowns...right after my second working set i felt a tightness in the upper back left part of my neck right below my hairline....shit got worse and worse as i got home...it hurts like a bitch now i can hardly turn my head left or look down.....what did i do?

    100% correct bro...its happened to me before too, but this time i guess it hurts more....i know it goes away, but fuck i hate when it happens because its hard to sleep on one side, i sleep weird.......i was just wondering, i stretch a lot too :dunno:

    foam rolling, some kind of hard ball (golf as mentioned or a lacrosse ball works for me) or a massage

    Massage, alternating heat/ice works for me although some say to wait 48 hours before applying heat, finally light neck traction.

    massage the group of tendons in your left forearm a little before your elbow (the ones that wiggle when you move your fingers) extensor tendons i think they're called. massage those, their directly connected to the muscles and tendons in your neck/upper back massaging those should relieve some tension. best of luck!

    i'm a personal trainer/ training to become a physical therapist =P

    i said fuck it and went and did arms and shoulders today.

    halfway through the workout i forgot my neck even hurt, now the pain is gone. :ugh:

    Mines been like that too, had it for about 5 months. Its a strong pain the the left side of the back of the head and neck.
