I sent in my 16-35 because it was back focusing too much. They sent it back saying that they calibrated it to factory specs and charged me almost $100. It still back focuses! They did say that "if I still have a problem to sent it back with the camera". Fuck that. They'd probably just adjust my 5D to correct the lens problem. All my other lenses focus where they're suppose to. Why the hell can't a $1000 lens focus properly. :squint:

I guess I'll simply focus on the tip of a nose with this lens to keep the eyes in focus.

Sucks. Ive fortunately never had a problem with misfocusing.

That being said, are you sure the problem isnt with one of your bodies? If they put it within factory specs, doesnt it imply that the problem is with your camera?

Or just buy a body that allows for lens calibration :mamoru:

What? He's right. Some bodies allow you to compensate for a lens' front or back focus.

My other four lenses focus where they're suppose to so I don't see it as an issue with my body.

Good point, I should have tried this first. I rarely use this lens on my 1D so I shot a test and the lens focuses fine, exactly where it's suppose to. The funny thing is that my other lenses focus fine on the 5D. I guess I need to send in the 5D.

well, I mean you can worry about your focus being off when you really need it, or you can get a body that works...

Wait. Since when does anyone need to twist YOUR arm....

I sent the lens back along with my 5D. Now I'm stuck with only one body and four lenses. Oh the humanity!!

what's the turnaround time for lenses?

what's the turnaround time for bodies?

how much does it cost for them to calibrate a body?

can i send my 40D in (assuming it's under warranty) and have them clean & calibrate it for free?

I had my lens back about a week later.

I would assume the same timeframe, depending on work needed.

They'll calibrate it for free if it's under warranty and there is an issue with the camera. I don't know what they'll charge simply because you want it cleaned.

half the time, i think there's some backfocusing going on. the other half, it seems okay.

i think the focusing is off just a bit.

maybe i'll jsut send in my 40D and see what happens.
