I thought you said in a post of yours way back when that it is perfectly LEGAL for you to have all of that stuff on your car, and that you had cops give you a thumbs up before or something like that. That cop is just jealous cuz your cop car looks much better than his POS Crown Vic

that was in las vegas. i live in south carolina now, big change in atmosphere and local flavor if you know what i mean The light bar is long gone, i even got pulled over a month ago and the cop didnt say anything about it. This cop claims the DA's opinion is that it is legal, but the DA opinion DONT MEAN S***!!! i need to read up on SC law, i know it was legal in NV but SC might be different. I just didnt want to go thru all this crap. im too busy with work and other aspects of life to worry about my car

Either way you're impersonating an officer or an officer's vehicle. It's more or less illegal in most municipalities.

Even if it's in a different language, if you can be mistaken for law enforcement very easily, you're asking for trouble.

    (B) Only authorized emergency vehicles and private security patrol vehicles regulated by the State Law Enforcement Division are allowed use or display of any blue lights or red lights. This includes light bars and smaller lights such as dash, deck, or visor lights. To "display" means to be seen, whether activated or not.

    (C) A vehicle shall not display the word 'police' unless it is an authorized emergency vehicle for use only by sworn police or other officers who are approved and certified by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.

smarty pants the law even says police in quotation marks

Hey, I don't write, enforce, nor interpret what the laws are. . . I just know some of them well enough not to want to drive a car around that looks like that on public roads as a habit. The fact that you're now going to probably have to go to court and have these laws interpreted, and a judgement made regarding them, is simply a reflection of the fact that you're willing to test the limits to which these laws can be interpreted and enforced by the local authorities. . .

. . . it's nothing to blame anyone but yourself for. Sorry.

Honestly, I hope you do get out of the ticket. Granted, I agree that your car shouldn't be "looking like" any law enforcement car, I also agree that the officer who cited you is probably overreacting about your car. A stern warning would have sufficed, I think.

Well then, all I can say is you've got to pay to play. In this case, it may be $232.

this is why i dont post here, because of the bmw attitude. I understand your point of view, but my car is fully within the bounds of the law and your point is moot. It would be hard to mistake my car for a real cop car in any state and in any county within a state. It looks nothing like a crown vic, camaro, mustang, truck, etc. I'm sure some people have taken a second look, but i dont think anyone with average intellegence is going to mistake it for a real police cruiser. (of course most cops lack average intellegence so i understand why i was issued the ticket) I plan on fighting it, i will win it, i will post the results here to show you nay sayers.

If you beleve its fully within the bounds of the law, Fight it or hire some one to for you, our country is built on the fact that we CAN protest. I say put forth a little effort and fight it, you sure had the energy to post on forums about it. Instead of bitching go do something and tell us how you do.:wavey:

Dude I lived in Charleston for nine years what is up with the blame on conservatism? I hope you win your case on the 29th. I work as a security officer in Dallas and the police here don't like a yellow light bar on a security patrol car much less something that looks like law enforcement. What I am trying to say is you are dealing with a universal attitude about this kind of thing. Here in the area recently a woman was pulled over by a "fake" police car and sexually assaulted. It is that kind of thing some police would think of when seeing a car like yours.

Look even the Geek Squad has trouble.
