    Assault Rifles For Hunters?

As I write this, I'm hunting coyotes in southeastern Wyoming with Eddie Stevenson, PR Manager for Remington Arms, Greg Dennison, who is senior research engineer for Remington, and several writers. We're testing Remington's brand new .17 cal Spitfire bullet on coyotes.

I must be living in a vacuum. The guides on our hunt tell me that the use of AR and AK rifles have a rapidly growing following among hunters, especially prairie dog hunters. I had no clue. Only once in my life have I ever seen anyone using one of these firearms.

I call them "assault" rifles, which may upset some people. Excuse me, maybe I'm a traditionalist, but I see no place for these weapons among our hunting fraternity. I'll go so far as to call them "terrorist" rifles. They tell me that some companies are producing assault rifles that are "tackdrivers."

Sorry, folks, in my humble opinion, these things have no place in hunting. We don't need to be lumped into the group of people who terrorize the world with them, which is an obvious concern. I've always been comfortable with the statement that hunters don't use assault rifles. We've always been proud of our "sporting firearms."

This really has me concerned. As hunters, we don't need the image of walking around the woods carrying one of these weapons. To most of the public, an assault rifle is a terrifying thing. Let's divorce ourselves from them. I say game departments should ban them from the praries and woods.

It's douche bags like this guy that are going to screw it up for gun owners. "Take the evil weapons, just don't take my hunting rifles." What the bloody fuck is the difference if they shoot the same exact cartridge and are able to do it accurately. "Zomg!!! Someone that has very little understanding of firearms is threatened by the aesthetic aspects of my gun!":run::noes:

What a moron. I'm sure a remington action has never been used in a "terrorist" act...

I'd love to go varminting with a nice AR that was setup for precision.

I was going to find out how to write an email to this faggot, but after reading the entries on the bottom of the blog it seems an email is unwarranted.

I was actually scrolling through all the responses until I notice the scroll bar wasn't moving at all. It's nice to see how many people responded to it.

I wonder if anyone informed him that the military's M24 sniper rifle is actually a modified Remy 700, which as you know is one of the favorites among hunters.

I find it ironic that the author of that peice is already in effective retreat. 50 years ago, I understand that in most of the country, the average male knew about and was comfortable with firearms. They were an accepted part of life and most people had at least one.

Now, firearms are falling out of the norm. Most people don't see them regularly, and many are frightened by them... thus they begin to become afraid of the unknown.

Thanks, Jim. You're part of the problem. You've retreated without knowing it and will likely have to retreat again and again as the yuppie/European mindset starts to take over and we all become consumers instead of hobbyists - with the hobbyist arguably being a downward step from the do-it-yourselfer. Why do we need to cater to peoples' irrational fear of the fractional-percent probability event when they routinely fail to take action on the high-percentage probability events?

a guy brought his two kids into a range that i was at, and they had a .22 with a scope shooting off a rest(dunno what kind, they brought it in)one of them was shooting it, and the other was watching me shoot the ak. i asked their dad if they wanted to shoot the ak and he looked like i just tried to rape his wife and rob him. he looked so terrified, all while the kids were begging him to let them shoot it. he left shortly after. people like him fuck it all up for everyone. i kinda understand though.
