I recently started to blog for dstroyr (clothing company started by former Famous stars and straps designer) he asked me to contribute and naturally I said yes.

I posted some pics i shot of my friend's car but ugh.. It sucks so bad i dont know where to start. i dont want to continue this downward spiral :(

shot these with my 20D, a soft ass 28-105ef 3.5-4.5 sporting a cpl with some lightroom adjustments. direct sun :o

In photo #1...looks like the sun is shining at the front left of the car. In that scenario I would have the car pointed to the right, so the entire side of the car is being lit. All the photos are too under exposed :( You're on the right track though

All I can really say is to shoot your cars on interesting backdrops.

My hand at a quick edit. *blush*

Your editing is definitely needing some attention, but i'd start by shooting cars that aren't 100% homoerotic.

these definitely could be improved with some minor tweaks in PS. if your lens is indeed soft, buy a 35 or 50 prime to hold you over. (plastic fantastics, not the L's)

I'd start off with locations, no reason living in socal to be using a wall like that. who cares about the cars appearance for a second, once you start getting these for assignments you can't pick the car/blame the car for shitty pics.

2nd is the lighting, use the sun to help you, if you don't use strobes or anything, shoot at sunrise/sunset.

That's like saying a pigeon-footed retard beat a normal kid wearing chuck taylors. Just because you won doesn't make you any less retarded.

I have 2 sb-28dx flash with cybersyncs but im still a little intimidated by them to use them. my past shoots with those strobes didnt really seem "right" like there was a better way of using them

I have a shoot saturday i told my friend i would be using the strobes and we would just wait for the ambient to come to us in the evening

I watched it man, i get the whole Fstop-shutter speed-iso thing thats not the problem. positioning of the lights, where to point them, how to point them, how far away to put them, power of the lights and things like that is whats getting me :o

try putting the camera on a tripod and walking around with the flash hitting the test button pointing it at different parts of the car.

or get your biggest diffusers and try to balance them out. the further the lights are from the car the more coverage you'll get, but you'll lose power really quickly. that's when it sucks using speedlights.

diffusers suck up a lot of power too, so you could go bare. but then you'll have to fuck with the positioning a lot to get rid of hotspots/hard shadows.

I was talking about using it as tool to get more comfortable with using lights. Looks like home boy already watched it though so I guess my point is moot :hs:

I'd start by not showing that angle... the fitment on that car is HORRIBLE. It's one thing to have shitty craftsmanship, it's another to post a close up of it.

Also, wouldn't hurt to detail the car before you snap the pics. The dirt/bugs/rock chips are distracting IMO.
