Don't mean to sway the thread, but what are the advantages of colo other than being able to pick and choose parts for your machine? Are you responsible for upkeep?

We're going to move one of our servers to colopronto.com in a month or two for a new site that's going to be launched. The prices look pretty fucking good.

Haven't heard anything as far as service goes though

Did you sign a contract or anything usually when rates go up your already locked into a price they cant charge you for it till the contract expires. not all are like this but eh.. what kinda specs do you need, port, power, rack space, geographic location I can track something down when I get home otherwise you can look thru some provider directories http://www.colocationprovider.org/ or similar

How many U are you looking for? What's your power requirements and your bandwidth? Depending on the size, I might have some contacts for you. Though I work for a company that has colo's at some of the Top Tier Locations in the DC area. Might be too pricey. All depends on what you are trying to do.

    we were paying $1100/month for a 4mb line and a 42U rack in a co-location.

it was cheaper and far more secure/robust/protected than the $1400/month location we moved from

You might want to call carpathia. I know they have several what appears to be shared racks in some of the big Equinix sites out in Ashburn. They might be able to give you a good rate for that 1U as well as you get their premium bandwidth at a good rate maybe.
