    Hey all,

I just finished setting up an FTP server in Serv-U and set everything up through my Linksys router.

Is there any way I can change my FTP server address from my IP to a name such as cmsurfer.ftp.whatever?

    Thanks,

    CM.

you'll have to register your own domain name, and point it to your router's IP address.. doable, but you'll have to update the DNS everytime your ip address from your ISP changes (assuming you are configured with DHCP)

Hmm... I guess It's not worth it then. I do have a domain name, but what would I have to do to point it to my routers IP address? Would that interfere with my website itself??

    Thanks,

    CM.

no, you could just add a subdomain to your already existing domain.. like home.cmsurfer.com what you need is an additional "A" record

does exactly what you want for free - you don't even have to buy your own domain name, just pick a subdomain on one of their multiple domains

What he said. I've been using both for ever a year.

BTW Serv-U is the best FTP server out there. Good call :bigthumb:

P.S. The DeeEnEs program is best used as a system "service" instead of a normal startup program once you get it config'd.

Here's how you do it - bottom of the page.

Thanks for the replies. I may check out those ideas. The FTP right now is for personal use for getting to my machine from work, and I use Remote Desktop for everything else.

Cool!!! I just signed up with no-ip.com.

    Thanks again,

    CM.
