What do I have to do to protect myself. I have to verify that the person is over 18, not a felon, lives in the state, and write him a reciept? That's it?

Check your state laws, please don't do anything more than is required. The people that decide its their place to get a copy of the other persons d/l, a urine sample, last 3 residences, etc really irritate me.

Where would I find my state laws on FTF transfers? I can hardly find any info on this at all.

I just make sure they have a purchase permit/CCW and have them sign a bill of sale.

You can call me if you want and I'll explain it, but here's the gist :

    Check his AZ DL.

If he's over eighteen, collect your money.

You exercised due diligence and you win.

There isn't much to it for AZ man. I just check age and write a bill of sale.

    .

along with a valid drivers license

Nothing is required in NC, I'd just rather be on the safe side.

Asking to see ID and having them sign a bill of sale is all that you really need to do to cover your ass.

Do yourself and the world a favor and make sure he's got a CCW\Purchase permit whether or not it's required.

Lots of states don't require you to have a permit to purchase. I'd say check for that if your date does, otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

Well, thats one of the stupidest things I've heard today.

Why? Because in VA I don't need a permit to buy a gun, and what if I don't want to CCW?

If they don't carry daily then obviously they shouldn't be able to buy a gun right? First of all most states don't require any kind of purchase permit. Secondly I think that every state requires you to be at least 21 to get a CCL. So you shouldn't sell a gun to anyone between the ages of 18 and 21 if it's perfectly legal to sell to them in your state? Sorry but I don't agree with any of that. What someone does with a gun I sell them isn't my responsibility. Granted I'll use a little discretion if it's some punk kid who's dressed up like a gangsta.

for FTF long gun sales I just confirm there identity and write out a bill of sale something like

    I <your name> sold 1 <manafactuer, model, serial number> to <buyers name> on <date>.

then we both sign in it, give the buyer a copy and file my copy away. handguns are a little more complicated in NY but if i lived in a noncomunist state I'de do the same for handguns.

AZ doesn't have a purchase permit and the kid isn't 21 yet, so he won't have a CCW.

I'll just make sure he's 18 and write him a bill of sale. Thanks a lot for the info.

Are you sure about this? For handguns too?

I can't find ANYTHING that says you have to be 21 to own a handgun in Arizona. Can anyone find anything about it? Sports Authority is telling him that he has to be 21, but I can't find anything saying that. I think it's just the FFL forms that require you to be 21, right?

Hi, Im the potential buyer for this gun, I called a couple gun stores and they only sell handgun ammunition to only 21+, there are a lot of stipulations and Im just really confused on whats legal and what's not. The only time the gun will leave my house is when I will be taking it to a shooting range, I just want to protect myself (legally) and the buyer before I purchase it.

Sports Authority is probably one of the best sources for legal advice. :hsugh: :hsugh: :hsugh: :hsugh: :hsugh:

Check your state laws. Look up handgun possession by a juvenile. Amazingly, the commerce clause isn't abused to regulate private purchases. Check your state laws, it is most likely 18 years old for a handgun.

He has to, by Federal law, be 21 to purchase a handgun and handgun ammo from an FFL (sports authority).

Regarding the ammo situation...you "own" a Hipoint 9mm carbine right? or whatever... :)

yeah. I don't trust any of those guys for this stuff. hell, their last job was probably at best buy.

I'm pretty sure it's 18 in AZ (21 from an FFL) from everything I've read.
