How's $12 shipped?
Hardcover, read it once.
In this entertaining apocalyptic thriller from Forstchen (We Look Like Men of War), a high-altitude nuclear bomb of uncertain origin explodes, unleashing a deadly electromagnetic pulse that instantly disables almost every electrical device in the U.S. and elsewhere in the world. Airplanes, most cars, cellphones, refrigerators—all are fried as the country plunges into literal and metaphoric darkness. History professor John Matherson, who lives with his two daughters in a small North Carolina town, soon figures out what has happened. Aided by local officials, Matherson begins to deal with such long-term effects of the disaster as starvation, disease and roving gangs of barbarians. While the material sometimes threatens to veer into jingoism, and heartstrings are tugged a little too vigorously, fans of such classics as Alas, Babylon and On the Beachwill have a good time as Forstchen tackles the obvious and some not-so-obvious questions the apocalypse tends to raise. Newt Gingrich provides a foreword. (Mar.)
I'll check it out. Are you on Shelfari?
Edit: Just signed up. Looks pretty
Yeah, I've got over 100 books sitting around here. Some I'd like to keep, obviously, but a lot of them can go.
Check out my Shelfari page. http://www.shelfari.com/o1514605857/shelf
It's on my "Books I've Read" shelf.
just signed up for shelfari
maybe, how is it compared to Patriots?
Not as tacticoolish, if that makes sense. More based on the town surviving, and a much more realistic story. Better characters, better dialogue, less AR15s (but still some )
Here's mine too:
I'll add more books later.
doesn't the EMP from a nuclear weapon only temporarily disable electronics? and doesn't it only have the range for which the blast range destroys anyway?
No. The EMP overloads circuits by inducing a current in them. Once they're fried, they're fried. It has a much longer range depending on atmospheric conditions.
wow no shit. didn't know it was perm damage
Yeah. There are various bits of info on it all over the internet if you search.
I'll take it if you've got it still.
PM me paypal info or whatever.
Book is hard to find around her for some reason.
