have one myself, most underpriced car there is IMO, nothing in that price range comes close to an M5

honestly, if you're competent you can do most of the work yourself, most of the people that complain about it being expensive are the people that bring it to the dealers and they mark up everything like crazy.

And yet, when one spends $40,000 for a car, one generally expects it to behave like a $40,000 car. I dunno about you, but I expect an expensive, well-built car to not break every six months.

I haven't had anything brake down in the the past 2 years of ownership. Its certainly been a lot more reliable than my E46 M3 was. Almost everything that was replaced was wear and tear.

Car is gorgeous! Ironically, as soon as I have kids I will be trading my e46 M3 for an e39 M5 :)

As far as repair bills... I think ppl think its trendy to say repair bills are bad on BMW's etc - but in my experience, BMW is no more or less expensive than any other car dealer and no more or less reliable than any other car of a similair year.
