From start to finish of aquiring a fairearm in Australia

Well, today 4th September 2009 I called up the NSW Police Firearms Registry to lodge my firearms license application. :bigthumb:

I am applying for a class A and B pest and vermin license. Which in short (and i mean short) i can shoot bolt action rifles, rim fire and centre fire on country properties in NSW with the permission of the land owner to rid it of pest and vermin (aka hunting). No handguns, no cal above .488 (or something like that) and no semi auto.

In about a week i should receive my papers to fill in all my details and have signed by the owner of the property which i will visit the most.
After that is approved i have to go a long rifle safety course which will be about 1 month from now. this will be about $100
After that is completed and approved i will receive my 5 year license for $200. by this point it will be about a month and a half from now.
After a 3 month "cooling off period" i will be able to purchase my first gun.
However, there will be a 3 week wait on that gun. I also have to purchase a safe that is bolted to the floor of my house.

This should be fun ( :wtc: ) but in about 4-5 months from now i should be posting my first gun pics.

I know it's a shit system but i absolutely love Australia, well everything except the gun laws so i dont want to hear socialist liberal comments :hs:
I can thanks this guys for our shit laws who went nuts with an AR:

Don't thank the nut ball, thank the people that allowed your politicians to gain more control over you in the name of "safety". GL on the paperwork/gun purchase!

Just finished reading all that and more. This isn't surprising, but there is actually a wide belief there that Martin Bryant was setup by the government in order for the strict gun laws to be established?

My mom recently moved to Australia and has been considering joining a gun club so that they can have a rifle or shotgun in the remote area of jungle that they live. Interesting read.

    What him said.

But  on you for putting up with the nonsense and restrictions your government makes you put up with to exercise your right to own a gun. Australia would be a kickass place to live if it weren't for that. :hs: It's strange that a country that seems to value self-reliance and durability so much is such a gaping vagina about guns.

Keep us updated on the progress, I'm always interested to hear how other countries handle firearms procedures.

CA isnt even the worst state in the US. NY and IL sound similar to Australia because you have to apply for the permit to even OWN a gun.

So the Port Arthur incident is what made Australia come up with stick gun laws? What did they do about all the existing guns? Go around and confiscate them?

  16. I like question 11 also. Don't the PC police get mad about stuff like that?

you gotta figure that if they are retarded, theyll probably answer yes to it, making the whole process of denying them a permit that much easier lol

He had 16 head shots in 15 seconds with 17 cartridges fired, all from the hip. I'd imagine most people would have difficulty reacting to the time frame and accuracy in such close range.
