Friends Macbook randomly shutting down

    He just replaced the top case, because his keyboard stopped working. You replace the entire top part, not just the keyboard assembly.


    He'll leave it plugged in, go away for maybe 30 minutes and when he comes back its off. I'm going over there in like an hour so I can give more specifics then.

    He already had that update, and it said
    "the selected update has already been installed" when he tried it again.

    Any other ideas?

    some macbooks have a heatsink that expands too close to a grounding wire and fucks up the power management when they come in contact. gf's macbook had that problem, she took it into an apple store and they did the repair while she waited :cool:

    I'll tell him to give it a shot. not sure if it's got apple care, and he bought it off someone locally for like 200 (broken keyboard).
