A buddy of mine went to a tryout for team shamrock in san jose the other day. This is his email that he sent me with the routine they did.

    "All,

For those that know, I went to a Team Shamrock MMA tryout (training) in San Jose, Ca. It was brutal. Here is a small taste of what the Shamrock fighters go through just to get on the Team.

Each applicant gets three Team members as mental motivators. No more than 1 minute off between separate exercises.

    1. 2 mile timed run, then right into the second part of the physical test.

    2. On the line, complete 200 body squats (90 degrees or does not count). 3 sec rest if needed, if more, you're done!!!
100 Toe touch situps, right into 100 V-chair situps. (No resting)
100 pushups. ( legs touch and you're out, chest down for 3 sec and you're out)
    200 leg raises

    3. Glove up for the fighting portion: (4 three minute rounds, 1 minute off) All sparring partners are current Team Shamrock members, and all are fresh.......
    Rnd 1.....free style wrestling/grappling
Rnd 2......boxing (no head gear/10 ounce gloves)
Rnd 3......kickboxing (10 ounce gloves/shin and foot pads / no head gear)
Rnd 4......MMA, anything goes (MMA 4 ounce gloves / no head gear)

I did well with the whole thing. Trained a lot for this kind of tryout. Out of seven guys, I was the only one with a huge boxing backround. All others were black belt this and that. They got tore up with the boxing portion. I did really well with the hands.
Thru the physical portion, 3 guys were puking. One guy was puking in the bucket as the fighters were gloving his hands for him. He went right into fighting. He made the Team. (2 of seven made the Team)

As for me, I am very sore and swelled up!!! I talked to Frank before the tryout just to let him know that I can't move to CA if I make the Team, cuz of the job, but I want to do the whole tryout. He said fine, but, if I finished, he wouldn't say if I made the Team. I finished AND beat up one of his guys in the boxing portion. That just made the rest MAD......

Afterwards, Frank bought us all Dinner and drinks........he wispered to me that I am welcome to train anytime I'm in San Jose. And he thanked me for beating up his guy, said he is too cocky........"

wait, are these JUMP squats... like going down into a squat on one side of a line and then exploding and jumping as high as you can back into a squat on the other side of the line? if so, that shit would be hard! 200 free squats doesnt sound hard tho

My friend wasnt in the team shot, I guess he was taking the picture. He use to box golden gloves years ago, and I know he has taken some classes with cardo urso (helped write the marine self defense manual, and has a couple jujitsu videos, some kind of Matsukazi-ryu jujitsu expert???) but I didnt know he was that serious about the stuff. He is supposed to have some underground fights coming up in the summer that he wants me to attend. but here is a picture of him and shamrock. This was all done at shamrock's new training center in San Jose. He said it was really small and nothing like he thought it would be.

Also you can see shamrock is hiding his cast behind his back. He broke his hand in his last fight against a gracie. (I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong)

  9. I've done tons of one legged jump squats (hard as fuck!) and have also done them while holding a 12lb medicine ball above my head. :hs: Personally I think all that is bs which is why I'm happy to only train with friends now. You can run 2 miles in 12 minutes and still gass out on the mat. It's a completely different kind of cardio that's required.

That sounds tough. I don't think I would be able to finish all of the second step right after the first.

Then spar right after? fuck that lol

besides his last fight, which i don't count entirely as a fight, he hasn't been in the cage in 3-4 years. Ace would beat him right now.

21 seconds against Cesar Gracie, who has never fought in a long time as well. He was supposedly undefeated, but all of his previous fights were underground I believe.

    Oops! :o

I meant to say that Cesar has never fought in a sanctioned match, but I changed direction mid-sentence.

Ken is older, but Frank is 33 yrs old I think, so he still has a few years to fight if he wants, seeing how he doesn't have any career ending injuries.

    And don't you mean "their"?
