Im a Nikon guy but told them id help em out
They have a 40D and i think it was a 430 EX flash
Is it possible to fire the flash remotely like you can with Nikon (just using the pop up flash as commander?) or is it different??

nope they need either a 580ex or 550ex to fire it via ettl. Or he can get something like cactus triggers, pw, or cs if he wants to go that route.

or the Canon ST-E2 to trigger the flashes by IR.

    Radio Poppers are another option.

    do not get the ST-E2
it depends on infared signals, and rarely works in sunlight.

radios use a (duh) radio signal and fire every single time.

Thanks guys, appreciate this a lot. He's very trustworthy so i might let him borrow the cybersyncs for a day or two to see if its even worth it, and if so i'll point him towards some of this stuff!

cactus if he's absolutely strapped for cash. Cybersyncs if he's not.
    Enjoy.

There are of course, other options, but he wouldn't need to ask the question if those other options were something he should be splashing out for.
Just get a few cheap(er) triggers and play around.

lol yeah, i dont post much at all and since the site changed this is the only forum i lurk

the CS are awesome! Definitely recommend them. I dont need a range of over 100 feet (though i think theyre good for 400) and they work great. I put my flashes in the living room, went outside into my driveway and pressed the shutter, they fired :big grin: I think ive had one misfire so far but that was because the flash was in standby mode
