He's thinking about ordering this Friday, and this is what we've come up with so far. He's planning on possibly buying this stuff this week, then upgrading some stuff later on when he has a bit more cash. He's reusing his sound card, monitor, keyboard and mouse. He's looking to spend right around $1000 for now. Opinions? Am I missing anything that I just didn't think of?

Let me know if that link doesn't work properly. :o

Also, this is the first time I'm doing a complete build, so if anything is incompatible, please let me know.

if he is going to upgrade with another gpu you might want to upgrade to a better heatsink now so you don't have to worry about it later. other than that, it all looks good.

    although imho, amd > intel

afaik, the only things he was planning up upgrading later would be memory, another HD, better soundcard and monitor.

That being said, any recommendations on heatsink just in case?

Maybe he's a gamer. :bigthumb: By the looks of it, I'm pretty certain that he is.
For a gamer, sound cards are a necessity. (Onboard is getting pretty nice too!) Not to mention EAX's and better FPS. I know many people use onboard sound but I prefer having a sound card since there's nothing to lose.

Mostly he'll be editing music and gaming, so that's the reason he's wanting a nice sound card down the line.

    Yeah! Sound cards FTW. :nikko:

I kinda want the X-Fi's. I'm stuck with an Audigy 4 but it's still nice :big grin:

BTW, I'm looking forward to building my own computer in the near future and it's good to see some nice estimate price range. :) But I want dual 7950's. That's gonna kill me.:noes:

Just a suggestion but I'd drop back on the processor and get a better video card. That mobo will accept the quad core cpu's later on if he wants to upgrade.

Also, I would not purchase any Mad Dog products. You can get a samsung, NEC, Lite on, etc. for the same price (+/- $2).

    agreed.

I would just get a samusung drive, same price+brandname.
Also check reviews/compare the zalman 7700 vs. 9500.
I opted for the 7700 cause it was the quieter of the two and it is damn near silent, and keeps my 4800+ idleing at 38c so I am very happy with it.

    PS what about hard drive?
