He wants the blow off sound but doesnt want to spend too much money right now. Will putting a bov on the car make it act up,computer, maintenance lights etc....
What are some good sites to go to? www.VWvortex.com is alright.

    Thanks in advance.

vortex is alright? dude its probably the best you can get simply because of the massive amounts of people on there. tell him to go to the 1.8T forum and stay away from the general mkIV forum.

lol, yeah that MKIV forum kinda sucks. You can get a forge DV and it will sound pretty loud.

its pretty easy... make sure you get a dv and not a bov due to the fact that volkswagen and audi have a recirculatory intake system that need that air put back though!! also they make hybrid valves that release pressure into the atmosphere and also back through the intake but those are kind of expensive.

there are BOV setups with adapters that allow it to not throw a CEL, but ive heard they still come on, on some cars

safest is to get a DV and get a panel filter ... and you can hear it just enough, but it wont be loud

honestly, BOV's hurt the 1.8t performance ... even though its up for debate

What is a DV? Is it a dump valve.

    VW + BOV = Problems.

You'll have a CEL, at best. Get a loud DV. Check ABDRacing, or maybe Nospeed (Neuspeed).

Just get a nice Cold Air Intake and a Forge DV. Makes a nice sound.

Helped a friend install a Carbonio Cold Air Intake last weekend and it sounded great with the Forge Race DV...

Just to get an Idea of whats out there browse around www.ecstuning.com and ask around the Vortex for opinions.

And I'm definitely gonna go along with the NO BOV!!! crowd...

    my wife just got one.

it performs much better with one. it has been proven that the stock one leaks boost after 10,000 miles.
i got one from "evolution motorsports" and like it a lot.

not very loud though to be honest

You got a BOV or DV? With a BOV you loost already metered air and that screws with your fueling. And I am not sure if you bought from evolutionsports or evoms, but both store sell DV, not BOVs

Let's try to keep the bullshit to a minimum - the '02s come with the upgraded (710N) valve already (someone correct me if I'm wrong) - no need to upgrade; also, a CAI does nothing for our cars - the stock VW airbox, as has been covered again and again, is not a bottleneck in flow volume - it is actually a really good design; that said, I do believe that an aftermarket DV generally puts up a bit more of the 'whoosh' you are looking for upon throttle closing...I recommend joining 20vturbo.com - my fav msg board...

oh - and right on, bugzy - BOV's often throw CEL's, and since the air is vented to the atmosphere instead of re-routed (as the DV does), the air cannot be measured, and this confuses the ECU - VW's are NOT meant for BOV's in their stock form.

Evolution Motorsports doesn't sell a BOV. They sell a diverter valve. That's probably why you noticed increased performance and no CEL.

in general it's a bad idea. i did use the HKS SSQ and it ran alright albeit a tiny bit rich. i also tried the Forge BOV which totally didn't work at all. hit a miss and i think it varies from car to car. If he just want's the sound then use cold air intake or short ram and he'll hear the recirc air being blown back into the intake. cold air intake is louder than the short ram
