Free Radicals, wtf?

    I had a med student friend (one that previously told me in the past that i don't need more then 0.6g protein/LBM) recently tell me that my diet is too "high in free radicals" (coming from fat and protein)

    i remember the concept from highschool biology - but have no idea how much of a bearing this really has on diet.

    Does a diet rich in anti-oxidants prevent the accumulation of said "free-radicals"?

    I eat Spinach, Broccoli and Berries daily (all considered amongst the top anti-oxidant foods)

    free radicals are genrated by frying oils are eating a diet high in saturated fats :)

    but be careful with the antioxidants, because too many and they can become free radicals

    I dont give a shit what some hodunk medical student whos probably had a combined 12-15 hours of nutrition thinks. If you are actually curious learn to do research with peer reviewed journals (eg not yahoo.com/google.com search) not ask this forum.

    free radicals are a general class of items... cancer causing agents, etc , and with all the hormones in red meat yea, thats why people say dont eat red meat... so what do the farmers do once they here about this? start beefing up our chickens :( ....

    and really there is a difference in taste too in natural raised vs mass produced.

    A trick they do with chicken meat is to pump it with salt water so it looks bigger and weighs more..such as subway chicken is pretty obvious, plus adding dextrose and other stuff to deli meats to give the appearance of more meat
