yeah, free songs are nice, i got that part. they offer 13 whole free songs, of music that most people don't want or already have.

they still rip you off. like those worthless pogs you get as "change" that you can't use anywhere else, so you end up with $40 in cardboard circles that you eventually just give to someone when you leave.

i'm just not a big fan of aafes.

Credit/debit cards FTMFW :naughty: , even checks if you use those. And not having to pay taxes, specially on large purchases ie. plasma tv's is the best.

You're going to be in-country for how long? And in all that time you accumulate that much money in pocket change? And that isn't your fault? Right... You buy something at the PX and get change for your purchase. The next time you buy something, you use your cash and some of your change. Sometimes you have more change, sometimes you have less, but if you have that much money in spare change it's your own damn fault.

Not always. If I'm paying straight cash, then I may consider checking out the PX. A friend of mine was buying an LCD TV and it was cheaper at Wal Mart, even after sales tax.

hmmm....korea for a year, japan for 4 years, various vacations in somalia, iraq, afghanistan, kosovo....

and i still don't like aafes...

look, it's not a personal attack on Ranger-AO or anyone, i just don't like aafes. they are a rip off. the commissary was well worth it, yes, but the px was a rip off, and more so when you are deployed and they are the only game in town for most people who can't get off whatever base they are stuck on.

let's go back to the original post. they offer 13 songs for free download. i see billy joel's new hit from 1977, melissa ethridge's brand new hit from 1993, some josh groban for all the josh groban fans....wow, great deal there aafes....

Gary Sinese and his band the Lt Dan Band are good to go. He visited me at Bethesda Naval Hospital while I healed there and he is a genuinely good guy. I was so hopped up on pain killers at the hospital I made myself sound like an idiot. He asked me if I knew who he was and I said, " You were forrest gumps platoon commander in vietnam. You are Lt. Dan!"

Gary Sinese is the man! We flew him out of Afghanistan, Bagram I think it was, to Saudi. He was done with his tour and going back home. that was back in 06. He lives somewhat close to me/my base, in Calabasas, CA. His kids go to the same school as some of our troops' kids from our unit. I have a pic with him that i'll upload later.

japan is not cheaper than the states at all. japanese people go to hawaii to buy stuff cheap. electronics in japan, where they are made, are more expensive than in the states, as are most other things. except sushi, which was super cheap and fresher than anything you can get anywhere in the states.

    mmmm, sushi....but i digress....

i needed new tires for my car, aafes didn't have them in stock and said it would take 2 weeks or so to get them, i went off post and had them on my car in 30 minutes, and i don't' really speak japanese. if i needed something, really needed it, i would get it off post, way more expensive, because it was better than what aafes offered. again, i aint talking about the commissary, i'm talking about the px.

Can I point out that the Commissary is ran by DECA and not AAFES?

    2cents, and I'm broke. ;)

    Continue.
