if it was a real dragunov and not a psl, the dragunov.
FPK/PSL != SVD Dragunov
The PSL is basically just an AK that fires x54R rounds, while the SVD was actually a different operating system.
I'd also take a NDM-86
AR. Probably end up a whole lot cheaper, and I like it better.
I'm not a big believer of the dragunov design. How does a sniper rifle not have a free float barrel? Second I think it would be much more difficult to get or make match grade ammo.
If what you wanted was a cool looking gun most people don't have to post pictures on the internet the the dragunov might suit your purposes.
If you wanted a fighting rifle there are better choices, if you wanted a precision rifle there are better choices.
If you wanted a sweet long range semi auto rifle I'd build a Ar10 in .260 Remington or 243. Something you could go out to 1000 yards if you did your part and still lug around and shoot off hand. Sure a 50bmg is cool but your not going to be shooting it offhand, and those are a pain in the ass to lug around.
Well its a not real sniper rifle per say, its a squad level DMR.
Good ammo isn't hard to get, there is commercial ammo out there thats not to bad, surp russian sniper ammo, and of course you can always roll your own.
I'd probably take an import FPK over an AR, if its a US built one well I've heard mixed things about the ones assembled here so... If anymore bans come a long the FPK will be the one to go up most in price and become hard to get being of foreign parts.
You have to have gotten all the camos for all the others before you get the Gold Dragunov. Otherwise, I'd go with the AR-15. No gold, no care.
I'd take the AR. The Dragunov just seems like too much of a novelty.
Evidently the ones that Atlantic are selling are Romanian factory built
Thats a plus then, whats your planned uses for either one? You can feed the fpk cheaper then an AR, but unless you reload or buy premium commercial ammo you'll probably get better accuracy out of the AR with mediocre ammo. If you plan to hunt anything bigger then varmints definently FPK.
Mostly was thinking of plinking targets at 100-200yds.
If it's under 300 yards there are few things better than a AR in 223. If you needed something for 400-600 then something around 308. If you want something out to 1000 then you got to look at the bigger stuff like 243, 260 rem, 300 win mag, etc.
I've always liked the NDM-86's. Should have bought one way-back-when.
I just wish the import ban hadn't been kicked in, or all those Iraqi SVDs and the like could come into the US.
so I'm about to pull the trigger so to speak and buy either an AR or FPK . Looks like the AR I want would cost upwards of $1000. Leaning more towards the FPK.
in for gold iraqi svd
Romak's = Meh. Make sure you don't shoot the heavy surplus in them, as it will fuck the operating system up. Czech silvertip light ball was the best shooting stuff that I could find, but even then (out of the three I've dealt with) 1.5 -2.5 MOA was about as good as it was going to get. The ergos of the stock suck IMO, the pistolgrip is shaped like a fucking 2x4, and cheekweld isn't the right height (waaaayyy too low). Oh... and ditch the shit-tastic glass that comes with them.
For the money, I can't fathom what one of those would do (within reason) that a decent AR probably wouldn't do better.
Dude whoa. What are you looking for in an AR? There are plenty of sub-$1k ARs out there with adjustable stocks and all that around.
Well I'm thinking of doing this.
Stag Rifle Kit Less Stripped Lower $633
Stag stripped lower for $120
+ some decent optics that will be $200 minimum
add in FFL transfer fees and shipping and you got right at 1K
Well you would be paying for decent optics anyways, wouldn't you?
