I remembered that the Rural King (a huge hardware/farmers supply store) in Waterloo had ammunition there, so I went there to go get some .22 long rounds. I got 525 Remington .22LR for $11
Then I went to the Walmart in Waterloo and went to the sporting goods section. Two weeks before, I went there and there wasnt a counter there or any guns/ammo. They had a new counter and case set up. Asked them why they redid it. They said it was because they got rid of all the guns there. Something about only having 8% markup on them. But they had ammo. So I looked at the Remington .22 and they have 550 round boxes for under $10, so I bought 2 more. (I plan to shoot a shitload this summer)

Went to Belleville to get some parts for my dad's powerwasher at the Craftsman store. While I was there I went to Walmart to look at rifles. Saw a Remington 710 and 700 there. The 710 was $325 with a free 3-9x40 Bushnell scope and the 700 was $365.
The 710 had a puke grey stock but a detatchable magazine and the 700 had a nice black stock but with no magazine.

Anyway, I looked behind the counter, and sure enough there was ammo there again! I asked the girl working there why there wasnt any ammo there besides shotgun shells the week before. She just shrugs.

Then I also went to Marissa today to see about a flea market that they are going to have on the weekend of another shoot at the National Sportsmans Park. (My dad bought a shitload of military surplus clothes and gear and he wants to get rid of them.)
So after that I drove another 5 minutes to Sparta to see if they had any different guns than Belleville. Got there and saw that they also had the 700 and 710 for sale. I asked the guy that was behind the counter why there wasnt any ammuntion besides shot shells. He explained to me that they put everything away but the shotgun shells, and got extra of them because of the shotgun competition in town.
I ended up buying a 25 Shotgun shell belt for $4

Anyone know if they sell a 710 with a black stock or if I can get a different one, or if theres a model of the 700 that has a detatchable magazine?

Anyone know if I can get a black/wood stock for a Remington 710?

710s only come in grey and are marginal at best; think of them as the 700's retarded cousin. You probably aren't going to find any 700s with a detachable box but that's not really much of a downside since magazines for sporting rifles are usually pretty expensive and a blind magazine can be loaded fairly quickly. :dunno: You could get a 700 and spend a shitload to get a magazine conversion from HS precisions or somewhere also.

I was just wanting a rifle that I could mount a scope on, was in a large caliber and that I could easily switch out a magazine. Oh well, I guess its not that bad.

I have a detachable magazine in my A-Bolt; it's handy to unload but I don't mind blind magazines :dunno: Plus replacements are $40-50 unless you find one on ebay. :hs:

Oh so there are detachable magazines on some cheaper 700s. I think what they had at Walmart was a 700 sps. I want a 700 sps dm. The one at walmart didnt have any kind it of magazine that came out. it was attached.

My A-Bolt is a Browning, not a Remington. As far as I know Remington no longer uses detachable magazines even in the cheaper 700s but I'm not scouring their site to find out. I have seen detachable magazines in some older BDLs, IIRC the magazine was also the floorplate and it looked horrid.

The dm in 700 sps dm stands for detachable magazine

I don't mind using my Remmy 700 without a mag :dunno: It doesn't take that long to load and I don't really shoot .30-06 too fast :o

Isnt there a 4 round capacity not including a chambered round for a 30-06 model?

    I think I have a choice between a 270 and 30-06 at walmart.

I also found out today that they have a special catalog that they can special order guns from. I might see about getting a copy of it soon.

They don't give out copies of the catalog you're referring to, you ask them if they can order something, they look it up and tell you yes or no and the price. It's essentially the same way every gun store works.

And detachable magazines on sporting rifles aren't really anything amazing, I wouldn't waste the money.

Yeah. When I saw it, and the 3-9x40 scope they offered for only $325, I kind of felt that they were shitty. Even the stock looks like a piece of shit.

I have been looking at Remington 700s for a half year or so though.

Yeah, I havn't shot it in a while but I thinkI can push 5 down and load one. Making 4 in the gun and one in the chamber. I only usually put like 20 rounds though when I do use it though :hs:

It's nice, but I don't buy 30-06 ammunition that often because I'm poor :hs:
