(CBS 11 News) FORT WORTH Gunshots rang out at an Albertsons grocery store in Fort Worth after a robbery attempt on Tuesday night. A suspect was shot, but not by the police.

The incident took place at about 11:30 p.m. at the store located on Sycamore School Road.

According to the Fort Worth Police Department, three armed men walked into the store and began robbing customers and employees. One of the victims called her husband who was waiting just outside of the store. The husband then walked into the store with a concealed handgun and confronted one of the suspects.

"We certainly don't encourage that," said Lt. J.D. McCarthy with the Fort Worth Police Department. "We ask that, most of the time, contact the police department and let patrol officers handle those situations."

The suspect, identified as Raysun Johnson, was shot in the backside as he was leaving the scene. He underwent surgery at JPS Hospital in Fort Worth, and is expected to be arrested when he is released.

The other two suspects fled the scene and have not yet been found.

Police are calling the shooting an act of self-defense, and are not charging the husband.

Score one for the good guys.

I can think of some states that would charge the CCW holder because it was hardly self-defense.

I say good for him, but just sayin.

Most places will allow the use of deadly force in the defense of others in whose place deadly force would be allowed. But yeah, I'm sure California and New Jersey would try and fry you for saving your wife.

I probably would have brought my 12 gauge instead of a pistol...

Or just for fun the 700 PSS :mamoru: Wonder if that would have been still called self defense?

With that in mind, short of digging through each states government regulations, is there a place to find out exactly what your state allows?

Or for anyone else in Michigan...can do's and do not's for stuff like that? I know here you're well within your right to shoot someone inside your home if you're threatened. And I'm pretty sure CCW's can assist but I don't know the exact rules of it (ie a LEO has to ask for help or give permission or something)

The story is kind of vague. It doesn't say whether that specific person had a gun and if it was pointed at the civilian and/or his wife.

IMO, I'd do anything for my significant other and wouldn't think twice about it.

Self-defense is not the only time one can use deadly force in Texas.
