He beat Shogun and then Rampage, aren't they both former #1 ranked? (Rampage was #1 at the time, and Shogun was at least top 3 when they fought).

He fights top competition, unlike "other" #1 ranked fighters.

lol @ getting credit for beating a fat/out of shape, hurt Shogun.

and looking like shit doing it.

And how much credit he gets for this last fight is Debateable IMO. It's a more than controversial win.

IMO he's not the #1 fighter at 205 in the world.

You think HE is #1, hands down the best?

I agree with their reasoning for placing him first. #1 rank doesn't mean you have the most talent or are the best fight. Great fighters lose fights. He's the champ, and he's beaten great fighters to get there.

If he loses his next fight, he won't be number #1, but right now after winning he is.

    If not him, who? :hsd:

  7. they had rampage at number 1 simply because of his win over chuck. Kind of dumb, really.

He has beaten the previous 2 #1s on that list and is the champion of the strongest 205lb division in the world what else does he have to do?

  9. hammer a six-inch spike through a board with his penis?

Really I think the only person on that list that does not fit is Dan Henderson. I am not sure where he belongs but IMO it's not on the 205 top ten anymore. Now 185, that a whole nother story.

  12. I'd hammer my "two-inch spike" through Arianny

Thats why rankings are stupid. The betting odds favorite might not be the guy ranked higher. When GSP lost to Serra, was Serra a better all around fighter after, no. But did he move up in rankings with the win, yes.

Shogun was ranked by many as #1 in the world, as was Jackson, when Forrest beat them. I dont see how you can argue that Griffin shouldnt be ranked #1.

I can get on board with the argument that the ranking system sucks tho.

He had a good record before fought a lot of good guys beat chuck and that bumped him up but it was a combination of what was going on in the lhw division at the time combined with him beating chuck and hendo that made rampage number 1.

Forrest is no stellar wrestler and doesnt have much on top. Not to mention he would get destroyed coming inside.

Forrest vs. Wandy would look either like chuck vs Wandy with Forrest dancing around the outside the entire fight, or it would look like Wandy vs. jardine.

  20. yeah closing distance and fighting inside on Wanderlei can be bad news. I really don't think Forrest could play the outside game with him either. I'd just worry that forrest would just bully him with his huge size advantage.

I'm too lazy to sort through Wanderlei's sherdog stats and my fight videos, so i'll just say: Plenty!

Seriously though, the only one i can think off the top of my head is Wanderlei vs Arona II where he did a pretty bang up job on negating Arona's take downs that owned Wand the first time around. Plus, isnt Wanderlei a BJJ blackbelt? that must account for something.

  22. wand is a blackbelt, and he jacked up fujita's arm with a deep armbar.

and one time I saw him make an armbar on sakuraba.... :hsugh:

But still, his guard is mostly just very defensive and airtight, so I'd worry.
