the ringing is the sound of the cells in your ear dying.

using a couple rounds of spent brass is preferable to nothing.

I bet that's the least time you'll forget hearing protection. I keep a couple cheap foam ones in my car just in case.

Same thing my father does, but he keeps full size ears with him all the time in his suv.

I always wondered about soldiers and whatnot. It's got to be deafening to fire a gun all day long without ear protection.

The only time I shoot without protection is when spotlighting or hunting in a box blind. When the barrel is out of the truck or blind it isn't near as bad. Plus I can't remember my ears ever ringing after shooting at an animal :dunno:

I'd have turned around too. Or balled upp fabric or something and tried that. I also keep a bunch of pairs of foamies in the truck just for that.

My cousin said that when he was in the Marines back in 2001 they made them hearing protection that was custom molded to their ears.

After reading this I had to buy them to try out, and am damn glad I did. I love these things. Sometimes it gets in the way when using some rifles but you get used to it. Now my friends and brother want a set.

I purchased them from the site they give and it came within 2-3 days, although I just found them at my local gun show for $50.

I recommend them and definitely think they are worth a try, especially at this price.

Speaking of earplugs -- what are some good quality ones?

I always keep some packs of the foam ones in the car, and I've got a couple pairs of Silenco muffs from wally world

I have a couple pairs of those same ones. I really like them a lot. You can plug a CD or MP3 player into them and listen to music too. Sometimes I'll forget I'm even wearing them.

The only thing I don't like about the big ear muffs is I sweat a bunch underneath them. A couple times at work when I would send my crew home early, I'll stick around and help out in cold storage which is (noisy as shit from all the fans) I'll throw those muffs on and my ears stay nice and warm.

What brand? I'm looking to upgrade.

I also pack cheap foamies in my carry-on bag so I can sleep while traveling.
Northern Tool sells boxes of fifty pairs for about 10 bucks
