    And FAST.

The car has been hopelessly outdated for years, and with new rear drivers like DCX's 300C and Magnum R/T on the market it will look even worse.

Ford has a decent car to replace it, and I think they should sell it here to to battle with all the new large sedans coming to the market.

    It's the Ford Fairlane

Available 5.4L V8, RWD, fully independent suspension, DVD navigation, premium sound system, etc.

It's much better suited to do battle in the marketplace here, and would go well with all of Ford's new cars coming out this year.

    aka Dodge Enforcer :bigthumb:

the thing with the crown vic, is that they still do sell (for now anyways) and Ford makes nothing but profit off each one as they have been paid for, for so long now

The Taurus and Crown Vic have horrible resale. Even new they have to substantially discount them to sell.

The Taurus is being replaced this year, the Crown Vic really needs to be replaced as well. The Fairlane is infinitely better, and a new nameplate that goes with Ford's naming system.

    Bring it here now Ford!

GM is also phasing out their big FWD sedans (Bonneville, LeSabre, Park Avenue) in favor of new V8, RWD sedans.

They announced they're all going RWD on the new Zeta platform.

Two Buicks, a Pontiac, the next Saab 9-5, every Cadillac, a host of new Chevrolets...

Ford is going to be very late to this market if they don't act.

Now that I think about it, FN (Town Car) is late '05 and EN (Crown Vic) is '06...

:werd: the platform has been there since the 70's. Besides that

That and the fact that there's a certain niche of people they cannot forget. MANY older folks drive crown vics and lincoln town cars, and many cabbies, executives still prefer cars from this platform. It has a use, its just not a good platform to get sporty (ie Maraurder) on.

I like the Fairlane, but ford has a dominance on it. They should sell both here. Think about it. Is they're any other car out there that can match the interior room AND the trunk space.

My parents considered getting awhile ago, here's what I noticed when driving them and a Marauder.

The structure is wobbly and noodly, it lacks modern rigidity offered in pretty much everything else you can get for the money. It's also not balanced for optimum foul weather control.

Bumps in the road kickback through the steering column and wheel. Handling is laughably bad (the Marauder is a bit better). The body bobs like a boat over smooth pavement.

The interior creaks and groans over bumps, when the doors are closed, and when you apply slight pressure the panels. Build quality is below par inside and out, and the tops of the doors don't seal well, allowing excessive wind noise. Everything looks and feels cheap.

The rear seat isn't roomy at all, especially for legs and feet. The trunk is poorly engineered. The floor is so deep, it forces you to bend way over to lift objects out.

The car is a V8, yet it soundly gets whipped by many other four door sedans in the price range with smaller engines. Ditto for braking and refinement.

Cliff Notes - It's only a good car by the standards of twenty years ago.

20 years ago is where old people live anyway. Why change it when the cars target demographic is happy.

Cadillac is suffering in the elderly because they changed the oldness and simplicity.

Every single old person I help with a Cadillac can barely get the doors open.

The Crown Vic should be a fleet car only. It does not offer superior or noticable performance, interior room, or trunk space.

Not only does it stack up poorly to contemporary sedans in it's range, it no longer has V8 RWD cornered either.

That sounds like a great idea. Hopefully they would offer both engines in it, the 4.0 I6 and the 5.4 V8. One good thing they have going for them is that the body shape is pretty similar, so you wouldn't have to worry about scaring off repeat buyers and whatnot.
