I have had to replace the engine in my lightning now only after 20,000 miles, I was wondering if anyone else has had any problems with theirs?

Why do you have to buy another engine? With only 20K miles and 2 years old isn't it under warranty still?
Go to www.f150.com there is a Lightning forum there. Someone there should know.

2 years and 20k miles would still be under warranty, as long as you didn't do any mods to it that could have contributed to the failure. (smaller SC pulley, timing advancer, etc).

why exactly did your engine brake?

I've had a 02 L for almost 20k miles now with no problems.

was yours modded? If you mod your truck, and the dealer finds out if you break something, they are not going to fix it. It is like that with any vehicle.

you have to pay to play. Stock form, these trucks are great. But if your under warrenty, you should be fine.

ive heard of two Lightning owners having to get engine replacements in the 20-30 grand range, both were mild modified. its probally just a factory freak thing unless you did some stuff

I'd bet: timing advance mod from ebay, smaller pulley, and 87 octane gas.

Forged rods and pistons with steel crank.

    what are you talking about?

the stock crank is forged and can hadle 800hp. the pistons are allready forged. The weak link on the short block is the rods. they do fine for stock, but if you lean the fuck out of the motor, you can fuck them up bad. that usually what happens is someone puts a chip and runs too much boost and bends the fuck out of the rods. all i can say, get someone who knows what they are doing when it comes to puting a chip in these trucks.

Mmmmya, thats what I meant, forged steel crank. Aren't the rods forged also? Most aftermarket chips that haven't been reprogrammed can work great in the L.

naw, the rods are not forged. they are the same one they use in the 5.4L F150

only thing that is forged in the L is the crank and the pistons.
