When you are board pressing, how does everyone here do it?

Do you just touch and go or do you allow the boards to sink in your chest then press and why?

Sink. I'm trying to get used to to having to stop the bar and wait for a press commman, so I'm doing that for all of my pressing movements

I do them both on ME and DE days for either a max effort movement (3 boards or less) or as a tricep movement on my DE days after doing band work with either 4 or 5 boards.

I touch and pause but do not let them sink into my chest, I may be doing this wrong but I was never a fan of letting the weight sink into my chest even when raw, flat benching.

I touch and go, mostly because I lift alone.

See that depends on who you talk to.

I was just seeing how everyone does it here. I know when I lift with Gene its touch and go then went I went with Miller he was hollering at me to let the weight sink in deep.

Well, when I said sink, I was assuming that you meant pause on the board?

Question for ya, how long is the pause during a normal comp? Basically, how long does the judge wait before giving the press command?

Bar has to come to a complete stop on the chest or belly and then the press command be given. From what I noticed this past weekend, it actually seems to differ from judge to judge even though it probably shouldn't

interesting, maybe I should get my spotter to start giving the press command on each rep to get used to the pause

Yea its just supposed to be a visible stoppage in downward motion but it does vary judge to judge fed to fed

When I practice with a pause I just have the spotter do a 1 hippopotamus then a press command

I'm gonna start doing every pressing movement with a pause. I think I'm gonna be in for a world of hurt in bench on dec 10th :(

stopping is pretty much the whole point of the exercise. youre building explosive strength from the bottom as well as working on your turn around strength. i would like to see the reasons that a touch and go (touch and bounce) bencher has for their style. same with box squatting. sit back onto the box and relax the hips then shoot up. theres tons of strong people that do touch and go but more likely strong in spite of their style.

pretty much what I was thinking

Everyone at the powerhouse pretty much goes with the touch and go so I did that for awhile. Then at naz bar I get yelled at for it so I was just understand the logic behind both styles.

it does let you do more weight, but its beyond the point. you cant bounce in competition, so theres no point.
