Do you take a patch to the barrel after shooting to get rid of the visible chunks of copper (?) out of the barrel after shooting or do you leave all that stuff in there and just shoot shoot shoot?

I don't know about not cleaning yoru barrel at all, but I subscriber to the don't "over" clean your barrel school. Push an oil patch through, and that is all. If you "have" to get some grits int eh barrel, push a nylon brush through, but nothing more. But I've poured thousands of rounds through my barrel with nothing more than a push of an oiled patch.

You are more likely to damage your barrel by over cleaning, than under cleaning.

I think people just enjoy playing with their guns and elaborate cleaning rituals are another way to do that after the range trip is over. For me its not fun, its just work. In general I think patches do fine most of the time, but I'm not a bullseye shooter. The only times I've felt like I've noticed a difference in accuracy (I mean really, this is why we're cleaning the barrel for modern non-corrosive rounds right?) is after an obscene number of lead .22's and a smaller number of centerfire lead rounds through a revolver. When strips of lead are peeling out of the rifling I'll concede that accuracy may be suffering. I've not noticed anything like that from copper buildup yet. Until I do I don't see any reason to spend a bunch of time trying to make it look factory new.

Once crap starts blowing out of the barrel while shooting then it's clean the gun

Depends on what I am doing. If it's just plinking around, I'll run a boresnake through every 500 rounds when I do a cleaning.
If it's precision shooting about every 50. For the rifles I carry a couple cans of compressed air in the bag to blow out crap if I don't feel like using a snake.

I used to over-clean my barrels. After having learned that it is actually causing more wear than normal, I haven't really cleaned them, and will do so only in the future when I believe it is necessary. I will probably only do a few pulls with the brush, and clean as regular for future times.

To each his own. :) To me the scrubbing and solvents some people use are far more likely to do real damage to the gun's crown or throat than some left over copper fouling. I would contend that you can take care of your gun without worrying too much about copper fouling. Ymmv.

I have about as much fun cleaning my guns as I do washing my car. Both happen only a couple times a year :o

    Same here.

I have gotten to where I shoot some foaming bore cleaner down the bore, let it sit for about 10-15 minutes, and run a few patches. Then after the patches look satisfactory, I put an oiled patch through. All my barrels I do this on are mirrors, so I guess it is working.

Does corrosive ammo affect other part of the gun or just the barrel?

I am still a bit obsessive with the new gun so I meticulously clean it after every range event.

I clean the barrel with a cleaning solution, followed by several patches than 1 oil patch.

I like cleaning my gun :dunno: I also like washing my cars...
