what type of camera do you think would be the best to take over there? IE- size, quality, etc etc. What have you experienced with them and what are some procautions?

I've been looking for a waterproof camera that is small enough to fit in my pocket, and that takes decent night-time pics.

I bought a Pentax OptioWPi, but I'm extremely disappointed in the night-time capabilities. I was expecting something like a green-screen pic for nighttime shots, but instead you just get a light magnifier mode that only works if you hold the camera perfectly still for 30 seconds or so while it captures the shot. And god forbid if anything in your picture is moving...

So anyway - I'm in for any suggestions as well.

 @ Pentax(not a fan at all) a good cannon or Minolta(now Konica Minolta) will do ya just fine, not sure about the night time capabilities tho.

I'll do some digging, got a particular price ceiling ? It's understood that it needs to be reasonable but reasonable is subjective.

    What?
if i were to go back to iraq again, i would buy that camcorder at bestbuy where it has a remote lense so you can mount it anywhere (helmet, shoulder, etc) and put the actual camcorder inyour pack or flak.

i believed the remote lense/camera is weatherproof. i could be wrong. you can buy extras just in case that one is broken.

that way, it will see & record what you see and the actual camcorder is protected in your pack/flak or whatever.

I wish i would have had a camera that took good night time pics. I tried to take what would have been some awsome pics only to check them the next day and find out all they were, were black screens:wtc:

The video camera sounds like a good idea since most have a low-light mode
