Mac Pro - Just came yesterday. Already need expansion. 1.5tb SATA drive goes in.

Just to illustrate how simple this is compared to other messy machines...

HD installation is so fucking easy on the G5, and even easier on the Mac Pro. Very nice.

I like the slideout board at the bottom too...

Can someone explain RAID setups on these systems to me and the actual benefits opposed to having external physical backups.

I'm on the mindset where If I have a 1.5tb internal drive for storage, I want an external 1.5tb for backup of that drive.
I seem to be hounded by people who feel the urge to press a RAID setup on me, when really, I don't believe in it nor do I feel I could use it to my benefit.

a backup implies at some point, you'll restore to recover.
If you wish to avoid the time and pain of that, RAID. Obviously you would still also backup anything you really don't want to lose.

RAID != Backup. If a file corrupts you cannot recover it from RAID (unless you're running a RAID0 with a hot swappable third as backup drive, rebuilding it every rotate)

From what I don't hear( ;) ) , they are very quiet. Reason why a lot of professional recording studios prefer them, that and some awesome audio software.

You realize that you're taking a memory bandwidth hit by putting in a 4th DIMM, right?

Don`t people usually record in a recording booth anyway... I don`t think any machines are sitting in recording areas but the instruments.

Honestly, it's the quietest machine I have had yet.

    Triple.

2006/2007/2008 Mac Pros should have 4 or 8 DIMMs installed ideally. 2009s should have 3 or 6.

That having been said, the overwhelming majority of users will never max the memory bandwidth so it's moot anyway.
