I've started taking vitamins again because I don't feel like getting the flu shots. I also started eating more fruit and veggies because I take public transportation all the time and work in an open-air office so it's likely I'll get a bug or two this winter. The Kleenex Web site tracks where the flu is in your state and my state (VA) says the flu is everywhere: Kleenex Anti-Viral* Tissue - Battle the Bug. So I feel like I have to be extra careful to wash my hands, etc.

What kind of stuff do you do - or how do you change your diet- to stay healthy when people around you are sick?

I don't change anything when people are sick, I haven't been sick with influenza in over 10 years and i've never had the flu. I'm sure my immune system is naturally a bit better than most, but a good diet, good sleep, and exercise should prevent most sickness.

    clever Kleenex advertising though. :hsugh:

The ONE TIME I got a flu shot at work, I got sick like a dog the next week. Never got one ever again after that and I'm good to go while the rest of the office is going through tissue paper faster than toilet paper in a dirty Mexican restaurant.

Google Vitamin D3. I've been taking it for a year and a half and have yet to get sick.

Honestly, I'm the worst in avoiding sickness of any kind ( I wear a condom, that's about it ).

I usually cut raw chicken and then use the same board to cut onions (that I throw on the skillet, but still).
I live in a co-op, we got germs everywhere, I think slowly but surely I've become immune to many common colds that might arise.

I don't change much overall, though. If I'm feeling a cold coming, I bombard my body w/ vitamin C (whether pills, lemon), drink a bunch of green tea.

    Besides that, I take:
    Fish oil
    Zinc
    Magnesium
+other stuff that's probably irrelevant for this discussion.

Sort of on this topic, though, is B12 something worth looking into?

How much is too much? And how fucked up can you get from overdosing?

I've been taking 100mg a day, plus whatever is in the multi (13mg or something). I don't even keep track of how much is in the foods I eat. :dunno:

Also, I read that you shouldn't take zinc with fiber or milk. Something about it not being able to be absorbed when taken with certain things.

Well, they're just 50mg pills so I'll drop it down to one pill a day.

So not with calcium? Good thing I'm lactose intolerant. Anything else to watch out for? :wavey:
