I'm helping someone build a pc.
he came to me with everything set up but the floppy wasn't working (wouldn't light up or anything) so I took out the floppy and tried to install another one, when I installed that one the light would stay on and it wouldn't read it still, so I unhooked the 2nd floppy and put it back into the pc I took it out of and now its doing the same thing (power light staying on not reading it) have any clue what the problem might be?

I'm actually having the same problem with my new machine. Light is on, mobo (and Windows) detect the drive, but it won't read a disk. Right now I'm just chalking it up to faulty wiring, since I haven't opened it up to make sure I plugged everything in correctly yet.

Cable is probably on backwards. On an IDE drive, the red stripe is closest to you, on a floppy, it's furthest from you.

if the light is staying on and the drive isnt reading anything, its the cable

cable. Usually an always-on light indicates the floppy cable is on the drive backwards... flip it around.

there's only one way the cable will go on.
I've already tried two different cables.
