I was wondering which flex band would be good for a beginner that I could use for squatting. My max squat is like 300 if that makes a difference at all. According to Defranco its great for building explosiveness and a better vertical jump. Would I benefit at all from getting them or stick to the basics for now. Thanks

So many conflicting opinions on band use.. I think the majority of the bigger guys think that until you get into higher numbers, just lifting the iron will be your best bet..

Another method to increase explosiveness and vert is by doing some of the oly moves.. cleans, jerks, etc. And good mornings up to your toes.

Bands are like a trump card. If you play it too early you may regret it later. For a 300 pound squat I would go with the purple bands(light).

Ya I already do power cleans and snatches. Great for building explosiveness.

if your max squat is 300 you really don't need bands imo...

do some reading on Westside and the Dynamic Effort method...you can do explosive DE squats with straight weight...also iirc beginners are better off using chains then bands...

x2 the purple is for squats up to 450.

Make sure you have a place to attach them to. I use the base of a power rack or looped through db. Many many uses for them however, do not fall into the woo haa factor in which all you want to do is crap based upon them.

Chains are fun to drag through the gym and people tend to get scared when you start setting them up.

I personally wouldn't worry about it at your level. You can still get a lot out of regular dynamic effort work.

Well as far as "building explosiveness" goes you can train that by doing DE work off a box and that types of shit.

But yeah I'd squat more before I started thinking about that kind of stuff.

No point to use bands or "dynamic" training at your level.

    nurse straight weight for everything

wow thanks alot guys. Lately I've been doing box squats because it feels like I cant do them wrong at all. Its much easier for me to push off my heels as well. Should I keep doing box squats and ditch regular squats for now?
