I was told by my doctor to start eating more fish in order to get more "good cholesterol."

But sweet jesus, I hate the taste of fish. A lot of the Fish oil caplets I see say cholesterol free, but there are some that don't, and lots of Flaxseed caplets that don't.

Would it be beneficial to start on either, or both? :wavey:

Also, I'm trying to lose weight, will the added fatty acids make a difference?

Just take a fish oil pill. No it wont make a difference. Its got good Omega 3's and is also good for other things like your joints, ligaments, and skin. Cant go wrong with fishoil.

fatty acids can help in weigthloss ya.

I personally do fish oil, a combo of pills with Omega 3-6-9 and straight Omega 3 pills because I'd have to down 20 of the 3-6-9 alone to get the 2-3g of EPA/DHA thats recommended per day. Doing the two types, cuts that to 7 (spread throughout the day)

look for enterically coated pills. you won't get fish burps

I could definitely live with 7 pills, and the lack of fish burps would be great. :hsd:

    Thanks.

It's in the Nutrition EDU. The stickies in f&n CAN be useful.
We get more than enough omega-6 already though, I'm not sure about omega-9 but I'd stick with EPA/DHA supps.

i used to take flax seed oil but i switched to fish oil since i read around here parts that the omega-3 in animal-source oils is more bioavailable than plant sources.

Just buy it from costco or any other grocery store, it's already dirt cheap.

A minimum of 1200mgs of EPA/DHA from fish oil a day is a good start. Fish oil lowers triglycerides, and raises good cholesterol, HDL, some. I'm able to avoid the infamous fish burp by keeping my fish oil capsules in the refrigerator.

If you want to learn more about fish oil, along with other supplements for raising good cholesterol and weight loss, there is no better sight to visit than Dr. Davis's: http://heartscanblog.blogspot.com/ He is a cardiologist that specializes in heart disease prevention.

Wouldn't glucosamine/chondroiton help more? For immediate tissue recovery?
