Hey guys. After being bashed to all hell in the OT forum, I figured maybe I'd get some help here...

So, lately I've been looking into a new computer. I've decided on a Dell desktop, but I'm unsure of which monitor I should get.

I'd like to keep the monitor cost somewhere around $500 max.

Now, I was set on getting Dell's 17" flatpanel. It costs like $250 or so. The thing is, I've been browsing around here and it seems like there are MUCH better flatpanels than Dell offers factory.

So, basically, could you guys educate me on some things I need to look at when choosing a flat screen monitor? I'm pretty unfamiliar with these things since I've had a CRT monitor for every computer I've owned.

It seems that Samsung makes some good monitors. I've been looking around on the internet and the Samsung 710T (17") appears to be pretty good from what people have been saying in reviews. What do you guys think?

I just have a feeling that Dell's aren't all that good since they cost so much less... Please help me!

PS: Where is the best place to buy one of these online?

that dell 19" mentioned is 25+ms response and is entirely unacceptable for gaming or watching a movie.

2001fp has horrible response times... not a good choice for gaming.

Personally, I would go with an NEC or a Samsung LCD... I own both, no complaints.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you believe the Samsung SyncMaster 21.3" LCD is horrible for gaming as well? Could you tell me what games it's bad for? I'm in a CAL-m clan in CS and have been using it fine without problems and notice no issues at all (mininal ghosting when I first received it, but now it's nonexistant).

the 213t/p is fine. the 2001fp is horrible, however. I've used both and I'd never buy the dell.

from what i can see the 213t/ps have slower response times. out of the 100s of reviews i've read for the 2001fp, only a few are negative. most say it's the best you can get right now for gaming (as far as lcds). that is unless you're willing to dish you the extra $$

yeah, pretty much everyone has said (and i agree) that for under $2k, the 2001fp is by far the best lcd for gaming
