anything wrong with a 420ex?? Friend of mine is selling it, I don't think I can warrant the high price of a 580ex just yet...

basically is the 430 ex worth the extra $60 (if they were both new)?? 580ex = end all be all? So many dollars, so many lenses to buy, so little money to spend :(

thinking about just getting a new 430ex...

I've owned 2 Sigma EF 500 Super DGs and they all end up failing. Between me and my friends, we've owned 7 and they all failed. They end up zooming at 21mm forever after you use them a lot. Battery life isn't as good as the 430.

i have also heard this. plus name brand, i.e. canon nikon will always be better in recharging for multiple shots.

I cover events with flash though, so it's different from shooting occasionally. The Sigma EF 500 Super DG is still an exceptional value and if you're on a really tight budget, it might be a better choice for you. When I bought mine though, the price was hovering around 180, which is a lot cheaper than it is now. :o

No complaints from my 420EX. I'm using Sony rechargeable 2300mAh batteries and these mofo last forever. I've taken over 300 shots with the flash firing (along with numerous on/off cycles) and still haven't had to recharge them.

I go through 500 shots in an hour or two, thats with deleting alot of them as I go along...doubt I would be using the flash for all of those but I figure I have this nice camera I better f'ing use it.

Maybe I'm mising something but the 430 is only like 10-20 dollars more than the sigma and everyone is acting like the sigma is a huge value?

Sorry, I don't religiously follow equipment market value (like some geaeheads here :mamoru: ) unless I'm buying or selling something. The last time I saw them, the 500 was 190 and the 430 was ~240-250. :o

Oh ok. 30-40 bucks is pretty significant when you're spending 200 that's a 15%-20% increase. Relative to a camera body it's pocket change, but if you look at the price of the flahses it is a noticable difference. 500 has more power, can be a master slave, :mb: 430 is weaker, faster recycling, possibly more reliable (speculation), blah blah :dunno:

I wasn't arguing the price difference. I was just stating they were the same price as you posted LOL.

When I was shopping for flashes, I went with the Speedlite since the extra few bucks didn't make a difference to me.
