Fitness noob needs advice

    I've hit the point where i think it's time i start getting in shape before my health starts to suffer.

    I haven't done any kind of work out routine for 5+ years. I'm not looking to get totally buff or anything, just trim the fat, increase overall fitness levels, and maybe tone what's there.

    What i'm looking for is some advice on what would be the best way to get started/diet/routine.

    I'm 26, smoker (trying to cut down/quit) 6'2" 196 lbs.
