I need to throw a fish oil into my diet. I won't get enough by eating real fish. Does it matter if I use cod liver oil, another in lquid form or fish oil caps? I can stomach the taste of liquid, is one better then the other? What do you guys use? Thanks in advance.

Cod liver oil though has to be limited because of vitamin A and D it provides.
So relying on cod liver oil alone to get your omega 3's isn't the best. Combining the two (regular fish oil) would be better.

I've been wondering about omega 3 intake as well. Whats the general consensus on omega 3 supplements? Which ones are good to get, and which should we stay away from?

cod liver oil has nowhere near the amount of EPA+DHA (omega 3s)

make sure they add up to anywhere between 300mg-600mg per serving

I get 3 tablespoons of flaxseed\rapeseed oil a day. It's in the form of an oil bottle same size as a olive oil bottle, so I just used it as I would use olive oil.

your body has to work harder to turn ALA to DHA and EPA, thus more needs to be consumed. 1g of it is nowhere near enough.

If you can get a mix of both (flax and fish), then great. If you're not vegan, then stick with the fish.

FYI the biggest side effect of fish oil capsules is fish breath/burps.

Freezing the capsules helps to cut down on this.

Don't waste your time with flax. Get fish oil, and get the kind without salmon in it.

1000mg fish oil does not equal 1000mg omega3s. most 1000mg fish oil capsules have around 300mg omega3. I've heard 2-2.4 grams is best, but everyone seems to have their own opinion.

it's not really a matter of opinion, it says right on the ingredients how many mg of epa and dha on the package.

i found some that were 640mg of omega-3 per cap, but haven't been able to find them since. most i seem to find now is 400 and change

I've taken scivation's efa for 6 months, never had an issue with burps. I take it halfway through the meal. Take three with breakfast and 3 at one of my last two meals.

I'm not stating that nutritional facts are a matter of opinion...I was referring to the recommended amount of EPA/DHA per day.
