What's your guys thoughts on the gas mileage that the new trucks are getting? Most are that they suck @ss. Alot of people think the Tundra should be ahead of the pack considering the DOHC design plus the extra Toyota technology carried over from there well known model like the Lexus cars and 4runner. The extended cab 4-wheel drive Tundra is getting around 15mpg, which is about average. I'm getting about 15.6mpg city with my 1998 F-150 4x4.

I get over 20. :big grin:

Some trucks are bad. I.E. 5.9 in Dodges. It does suck. GM is working on that placement on demand thing again.

I'm mostly referring to fullsize, half tons, with the largest available engines. eg. Chevy 5.3L/Ford 5.4L/Dodge 5.9L.

  11. me too 15-17 mpg
that's why i got my mitsubishi 25-30 mpg
plus daily driving with bags is a no-no, i blew more air lines than greddy on a friday night!!!

5.9 isn't the largest size of dodge engine, they make an 8.0 litre V-10, which gets a massive 4.6 mpg

a friend of mine had the v-10 sport and it was totally usless

    Gas mileage

Funny, I had heard that the V10 Chrysler motors got a consistent 11mpg or so. If that was true I'd take one over the 5.9 V8 guzzler.

If your going to get economy from a truck, get a diesel!

BTW, my parent's 1996 Chevrolet K1500 Regular Cab Long Bed 4x4 gets 19-22mpg highway with a Vortec 305 V8. The mileage drops down to 14-16mpg in the winter because of the extreme cold and 4WD use. It has 100,000 miles on it too.

in 2003 dodge is "supposed" to bring back the hemi engine. while they wont be as paowerful as there muscle car counterparts they will be a step up fomr the current line of engines.

the 3.9 will go down to a 3.7
the 5.2 will go down to a 4.7 (i think)
the 5.9 will go down to a 5.7

i dont tihnk they will change the 8L

even with the small drop in liters the engine will produce more hp and torque than what the current engines produce...

i REALLY hope they bring them back... i will trade my 99 ram in a heartbeat

i get about 17-18 in my 4.7HO dakota. if I baby it, I could probably get 19. if I feel like having fun, I can get it down to 12-14. not too good for a mid size.
