I used to make cuts with the polygonal marquee tool, which was really ghetto and shitty. Didn't know what this pen tool was for until I saw an old PS tutorial I had buried in my HDD.. it's awesome!

How does this look, I might have been looking for too long, so I want some other opinions on the cut:

    Nice job on the edit.

I've been to a few Photoshop seminars, that are geared specifically to photographers, and oddly enough, they show them how to isolate an object with the lasso tool. :coolugh:

Luckily I, being a graphic designer, have been using the pen tool for a long time and know better than that.

You can also use the extract filter, but pen tool probably works best.

    pen tool ftw

sucked a couple quarters ago when taking an intro to PS shop class we had to demonstrate in tests how to cut stuff via the method(lasso with shift and alt) the prof showed us and wasn't down with the pen tool :( was a pain since i was familiar with it from working in illustrator

OnOne's mask pro can do those kinds of masks in no time. Especially since the contrast bestween the subject and background are clearly different. The only issue you would have is the upper left shoulder that is blue against the blue background. but nothing a quick local contrast cant fix

I just got onone mask pro... its pretty impressive but has lots of trouble with the white pieces of equipment/uniform and ice/boards.. not quite worth it I think. I did just start though, I'm sure theres a way to fool and and still get it done faster, I jsut dont have time to figure it out :sad2:

those do it for you clipping tools are fail unless it's a red, round ball on a green screen. You spend just as much time fixing it's fuck ups and then some.

I tried the pen tool a little while following a tutorial on the photoshop essentials site. I didn't get it to work very well, but it did do a good job when I had it working. I'll have to mess with it more someday.

If you cannot "get it to work well" then you are doing something wrong. It's literally just clicking where you want the next one? Try zooming in ... alot.
