i was wondering how the gun buying process works? from a store? a gun show? is it all the same. i don't kno anything about these things. my friend and i go to the gun range every now and then and i've finally decided that i want to get a glock. whats the difference between the models? 17, 22? 38? just different bullet sizes?

For Glock information go to www.GlockTalk.com. Read everything there. All your questions will be answered.

It is clear that you don't have a handle on the basics so I would recommend that you take an NRA First Steps or Basic Pistol class before you decide to buy a gun.

The process of buying a gun depends largely on where you live. Do you live in CA or WA?

You need to read up before you buy because no offense, but it sounds like you dont know anything about guns.

are you in seattle or california at the time of purchase?

if it's seattle, then i have pretty much all the answers for you. if you're in cali, i'm not gonna waste my breath.

In TX you pick out the gun you want... 5 min later the guy gives you your gun in a brown paper bag and you go home

(true story of my last gun purchase)

2 weeks ago when i bought my AR, i had to fill out a form and he called it in to SLED (SC Law Enforcement Div). they said i was good enough to buy, swiped my credit card, and walked out with my new gun. if you plan on buying more than one at a time, tell the salesman so he doesnt have to do seperate background checks.

In Arizona, you have to fill out a form, and then the dealer runs an "instant" background check, which takes anywhere from 3 minutes to several hours. Then, after you are cleared, you get your gun and go home.

If it is a sale from a private party, as long as you are old enough (and not a felon) and the weapon isn't illegal, you are good to go.

you don't have to register a private firearm or anything, how do they keep track of it? Also why the large gap in background check times? Also can you buy a handgun at 18 from a private party because I know you have to be 21 to buy from a gun dealer.

You don't need to register firearms in most states, only those run by liberal douche bags who think guns are evil.

The background check time can vary depending on how busy the system is, if you have a common name, if you've ever been arrested before, shit like that.

Check your state law for info regarding private party purchases.

i dont think ma falls under any of those- im turning 21 on tuesday and want to go to the range-

we have to go to the police station and apply for a license then take a safety course - then we can purchase using the license
