Alright I'm trying to piece together a computer. Its my first time and I just want to make sure that I have all the parts, the only thing I don't need is a monitor. I have a 1 yr old sony 21" or 22" CRT that I've only used for maybe 20hrs. Is there anything that I should change or upgrade? For the graphic card I heard that ATI has a new 9800xt coming out so I guess I would change to that but newegg didn't have that on their page.

I don't see the purpose of an aftermarket hfs for a P4 unless you're overclocking. Other than that, looks badass.

Crazy system. I know a couple of ppl who throw money down like that to build a system, and all they do is play some games, and go on the internet. What a waste. Just make sure your gonna take advantage of what your buying.

Hell, if you have the money I say go for it. Nothing wrong with having a better system than you need, like you said, it's just longer until you need to upgrade. If it were me, I'd build an AMD machine (actually I did), but that's personal preference I suppose.

Honestly, if ATI has some hot new card coming out soon. (Within a month? i dunno.), i'd just get a Geforce 5200 or something for $100 or less and then get a 9800 Pro when the price drops at the 9800 XT release.

2.8ghz Pentium 4 with 800fsb is only $266 at newegg. You're paying quite a bit more for only 200mhz there. If you want to splurge, go for the 3.0, but the 2.8 is a better value.

And find out the dB sound level of that heat sink you ordered. Anything over 33db is too loud and annoying to me.

Alright Thanks! My brother said the same thing about the 3 ghz processor. He said if I really want a 3ghz just buy the 2.8 and over clock it. That it shouldn't be a problem to get another .2 out of it.

The 2.4's have reached 3.8GHz, stable. i think your 2.8 would handle 3.0 no prob. :big grin:

you can get the 2.8ghz processor and with the extra money buy another 512 stick of ram which you would probably notice more than the processor

Well if you wanna go with Kingston, get the Hyper X series ram.
Corsair XMS, Mushkin, OCZ are also very good ram.
I don't have any experience with the Corsair XMS ram you listed.
The specs look similar between the 2. Google search them and look for reviews and compare the 2. I think they'll both be good though.
I just bought a stick of 512MB Geil Ultra Platinum PC3700 for NewEgg for $133. I got good review and stuff.
