So I've been thinking for a while and trying to come up with something that I like to get tattoo'ed on me. I've pretty much decided on a design but just had a question about the location. I want to get it on the back of my leg, right above the foot (see picture). Does anyone on here have any experience on getting something done here? Not asking about the pain as I know the tolerence levels are different with everyone but I have a feeling it will end up hurting like a bitch. I can get over that. Is this a bad area to get a tat? I don't think I've seen very many people with a tattoo in this spot.

Let me in on your knowledge :)

Area I want to get it done

And this is the design I've been thinking of. It's a keystone. I was just playing around with patterns in this picture but I want to get some sort of rock or maybe even brick pattern in it. Shades of black and gray only.

    What do you guys think?

interesting, i like the keystone + achilles. Don't suppose your an athlete of some sort ;)

all I have to say is be careful with the placement... you might have some distortion in the tattoo because of the curvature of that area. It might be difficult to make out the keystone shape :noes:

nah far from an athlete :hs:

Born and spent my entire life in Pennsylvania (the keystone state) and just wanted to get something for that.

The distortion is what has me somewhat worried about the position. I guess my best bet is to go to the shop where Im going to get it done and see what they say/think about it.

Just wanted to see if anyone on OT had any experience with the placement. :)

Wish I could relate, but mine are only on my arm so far. You should def talk to them see what they think, maybe they can fix it so that the distortion doesn't affect it that much.

Will definately post when it's done. :bigthumb:

anyway... I went with a friend on Sunday because she was turning 18 and wanted to get a tattoo. She got a small butterfly right below her waistline. I have been thinking about this for a while and she told me I should get it done at the same time but I have a specific shop in mind. I did however talk to the guy that was doing her tattoo and he said if I get one done around that area that I might want to do it where I have a few days where I can just relax because he said it will probably hurt to walk. I think that I have next weekend off so hopefully next Friday I can go and get it done. Do you guys think I should go in beforehand and talk to them about it or just go in on the day I want to do it?

a few days off for something that small? lol

I got something near that area.. http://forums.offtopic.com/showthread.php?t=3138252

and everytime he'd get near that tendon it felt like he was carving on it. A few times about in the middle of the calve he even made me jump which had never happened.. I didnt move, I guess it was more like a reflex or something.. and it was sore for a few days...

as far as placement, it might be a bitch for the artist to work on. i have the back of my neck tattooed and my artist complained about doing that area, saying it's such a pain in the ass to work with the bones and the resulting curves there. the tattoo works, but only because as he was tattooing he worked the design around my bones. so your artist needs to be able to make the design work on that area - to make it look normal, you know what i mean? just a thought.
and i would go in and talk to them beforehand, just to make sure you're all on teh same page, so to speak.

I don't know anything about placement, but I think it would look really cool with a "P" for Pennsylvania in the middle like it was carved into the stone.

got it today! Didn't hurt as much as I thought it would, except when he was filling in parts of the inside. The outline went fine but as soon as he hit one part of my leg I got light headed instantly. Took a two minute breather and finished up. Funny thing is that afterwards the girl that I went with almost passed out walking to my car thinking about the blood.

Pictures tomorrow when I remove the bandage.
